No Place Like Home, chapter 16

Slayer dreams... I sure am writing alot of them lately.

 Chapter 16

Faith Lehane twitched unnoticed by the nurses that took care of her in the long term facility. It didn’t really matter as they probably would have dismissed it as part of the coma. In reality, Faith dreamed about the life that Spike and Buffy had left behind.

Faith sat on the couch with Buffy. On the television they were watching another Buffy standing with Spike, their hands clasped and on fire.

“I love you,” the Buffy cried out, her eyes filled with tears.

“No, you don’t, but thanks for saying it,” Spike said.

Buffy picked up the remote, and she clicked the television off. “You see, Faith, you’re not a bad Slayer after all.” She turned to look at the dark-haired Slayer. “You’re the only one now.”

“Only one what?” Faith asked in confusion.

“The only Slayer, of course,” Buffy answered. “I’ve moved on. Evolved, you understand, became something more.”

“Is that even possible?”

“With the right circumstances, anything is possible.” Buffy gave a shrug. She hummed a few bars of a tune.

Faith looked back at the blank television screen. She nodded in understanding. “If your job is to guard the Hellmouth, what am I supposed to do, B?”

“Sunnydale isn’t the only place that evil lurks, F.” Buffy rose to her feet. “Maybe you could find Principal Wood and head him off at the pass.”

Faith chuckled. “You mean make a pass.”

“Whatever works.” Buffy chuckled in return. “You really are a good Slayer, Faith. Be all that you can be.”

“With the Army.”

“Nooooo! We’re so not going there again.” Buffy shook her head. “It’s time to wake up now.”

Faith’s eyes popped open with a start. She stared at the ceiling as she thought about the dream she had just had. If she tried to go the road that was shown in the dream, she was only setting herself up for heartbreak. Faith had lived through enough heartbreak in her life. She didn’t want or need anymore. First order of business though was to figure out how to get the Council off her ass. Faith just hoped that Buffy would have some idea on how to do that.

Faith Lehane sat up in her hospital bed, and she carefully took the monitor leads off of her skin.

“Faith should be waking up any time now,” Buffy informed the Companions and her mate. She looked around the room at Anya, Giles, Dawn, Joyce, and Spike. “Last time wasn’t much fun. She took my body and slept with my boyfriend.”

“Won’t be happenin’ this time, pet. This boyfriend is on to her little games.” Spike leaned against the door jamb leading to the foyer of their house. “No chip hinderin’ me givin’ her the slap down she might be needin’ either.”

“But she was so different there at the end,” Dawn protested. “A real part of the gang.”

“I know, but this Faith hasn’t had the experiences that Faith had.” Buffy crossed her arms in front of her chest.

“I wouldn’t count on that, B. I had one of those lovely Slayer dreams.” Faith stepped into the living room from the dining room. “You were surprisingly easy to find, I hate to say. I just threatened Willy a few times, and he sang like a canary.”

“How did you get in here?”

“That too was surprisingly easy.” Faith smirked. “I just turned the door knob.”

“We really should keep the doors locked,” Buffy told Spike in a snarky voice. She turned to her sister Slayer. “A Slayer dream, huh?”

“Yep. I saw the life you left. I can’t say it was the greatest either.” Faith nodded. “As soon as we get the Council off our backs I’m leaving Sunnydale for greener pastures. That Robin Wood looked like a fine figure of a man.”

“Yes, Travers could be a problem.” Buffy started to pace. “Things were so much easier when he was blown up.”

A knock sounded from the front door.

“Hope that isn’t the Council already,” Spike muttered. He stepped into the foyer to answer the door.

Outside on the porch was a tall, dark-haired man. He held a suitcase in one hand and a book in the other.

“Hello, I’m Reginald Bey. Is Rupert Giles here?”

Spike raised an eyebrow before he called back over his shoulder. “Hey, Rupes, someone’s here to see you.”

Giles got to his feet, and he joined Spike in the foyer. “Reggie, you made it. Did you have any problems making it away from the headquarters?”

“Rupert.” Reggie dropped his suitcase, and he gave Giles a bear hug. “It’s been too many years since we’ve been together.”

“Guess you don’t want to hear that Ethan’s here too then.” Giles grinned as he stepped away from his friend.

“Where is that old reprobate?” Reggie looked past Giles and Spike into the house. In the doorway to the living room, he noticed a beautiful woman surrounded by some very nice looking young girls. He brushed past the other men to take the woman’s hand to kiss the top of it. “And who is this beautiful creature?”

“Mom’s got an admirer, Buffy,” one of the young girls whispered to another. “Hope this one is better than the last one.”

“Anything’s a step up from a murdering robot, Dawnie,” the other girl whispered in return.

“Hush, you two,” Joyce replied. “You both know that Ted wasn’t my last admirer. He wasn’t here during the band candy thing.”

“Mom,” Buffy and Dawn said as one. “We’re trying to repress.”

“Welcome to the chaos, Bey,” Giles commented.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“You have a great amount of power, Willow,” Serina said. “You just need to learn that you don’t have to control everything around you.”
“Yeah, I guess so.” Willow felt her face flush. The ‘Thy Will Be Done’ spell was still quite fresh in her mind.
“Now take Tara here.” Serina put her arm around the shy Wicca. “She has the most incredible control I’ve ever seen before in one so young. Your power and her control make the two of you quite formidable together.”
“Really?” Tara looked at Willow through her bangs. She thought the other girl was so beautiful, and just being in the same room with Willow took her breath away.
“Oh yes, the two of you together will be unlike anything the world has ever seen.” Serina smiled gently. “Now, we need to make a big decision tonight.”
“What’s that?” Willow looked confused. “I thought we already chose a spot for the coven to be.”
“Oh, we have, but we need to decide.” Serina pulled out two take-out menus. “Do we want Chinese or Italian?”
Xander slugged back another shot of whiskey. One good thing about demon bars; they never asked for I.D. Earlier that day he had tried to talk to Willow about the wrongness that was Spike and Buffy, but the red-haired witch was only interested in the mentor that Giles had found for her. That had cemented his decision to take his bosses offer to move to Cleveland to take over another construction business the man owned. Anything to get out of Sunnydale after all.
Xander rose to his feet, slammed some money down on the bar, and staggered out of the establishment. He would leave in the morning. By plane he planned to be in Cleveland by nightfall, and the Hellmouth would be a distant memory. Of course he had no idea that there was one at Cleveland, and that Faith would be there in just a few months herself. However that’s another story entirely.
I like this slayer dream. :) Sounds as if it was part of the reason for Faith to wake up (or who knows she woke up and therefore was dreaming).
*off to the next chapter to find out more*
Xander seems lost, though (not accepting).
